ART: Exploring Lesbian identities with Catherine Opie

Pictured above is Le Tigre’s JD Samson sporting a mustache, part of Catherine Opie’s series “Girlfriends”. The series also includes K.D. Lang, Katherine Moening, and Jenny Shimizu.

When I was college, I use to flip through slides of Catherine Opie’s photographs for inspiration. It was the way she arranged her subjects. The saturated color she chose for the background. The final size of her prints…She photographs from the heart and the connection to each of her subjects is clear.
