FEATURE(S) – Pleasure Reading
Monday, 24 May 2010
The latest edition of FLAUNT magazine is thick and filled with quality reading. Peel back the plastic wrap and rub your hand over the beveled relief book cover. Feels nice, right.
In this post, I wanted to highlight three articles that caught my eye and led me to research more about their subject matter.
More about the articles and additional information about the the artists are after the jump.
ARCHITECTURE

Sir Peter Cook curated a the London Eight exhibition that was recently held at the Southern California of Architecture of Los Angeles. Primary focus – to evolve the dialogue between teacher and student or in this case architect and protege. The exhibition featured a mixture of materials from collages to projections to models. Also on display were hand drawings, digital compositions, and architectural forms in two and three dimensions compositions such as the one I posted above .
FUN FACT: Peter Cook is a founding member of the avant garde architectual group, ARCHIGRAM.
QUOTE:“One cannot help but be inspired by working so closely with someone who tailor-makes every design to suit context and culture.” – Protege Pascal Bronner commenting on working with architect, CJ Lim.
EXPORE: Visit the blog, Lebbuswoods for further reading about the London Eight Exhibition. The writer goes into depth about exhibit and his blog post features more images of the completed work from the architects and proteges.

DANCE
Cuban dancer, Lorena Feijoo’s physique and form is a sight to admire and explore. A trained ballerina dancer from Cuba, Feijoo is among many immigrants from Cuba who in the dance world are seen as the “new Russians” in the respect that both experienced extreme limitations of creative expression that ultimately results in the development of a distinctive style and technique. Unorthodox, Feijoo’s can be seen on stage as the principal dancer for the San Francisco Ballet repertory and in the John Neumeier’s ballet version of The Little Mermaid.

STYLE
I guess I am not the only one with an appreciate for fine luggage and briefcases. Highlighted among many stylish things in the article, carrying a Samsonite briefcase can lead to many conclusions as to what line of work you deal in. Quite honestly, I would think you were a tech from IBM. Whatever the case (pun intended) a Samsonite is a gold star in style.
FUN FACT: Created by Jesse Shwayder. His first couple cases were named “Samson” after the strong biblical figure, Samson.
